Chiefs sink AmaZulu to maintain winning start

Kaizer Chiefs made it two wins from two matches in the Betway Premiership after defeating AmaZulu 3-1 on Wednesday evening.

The returning Njabulo Blom were shown his first start of the season for the Amakhosi, as Usuthu started Olwethu Mzimela in goal ahead of Veli Mothwa.

Amakhosi needed little adjusting to proceedings but hit the front on 12 minutes where a rebound effort put Usuthu in a spot of bother and allowed Ranga Chivaviro to come in and lash home.

Chiefs didn't let up two minutes apart and extended the lead when Gaston Sirino opened up his account for the club with a superb finish from the cusp of the area.

The home team looked to hit back immediately through a first-time shot from quick innovation by Etiosa Ighodaro, but he failed to hit target.

Usuthu were completely crestfallen in the midway point of the first spell and fell further behind after Angolan defender Inacio Miguel popped up in a decent area to head in for his first at the club.

Sirino attempted a brace late in the half with another stern shot from around the six-yard area, but Mzimela came and courted him on this occasion.

However, AmaZulu got some bit of joy two minutes in the second half after Ighodaro made complete use of casual play at the back and netted comfortably.

The Amakhosi made a double substitution later on where Mfundo Vilakazi came on for Wandile Dube before Blom shifted out for Edson Castillo.

Usuthu could've added another in quick succession as a ball in from Riaan Hanamub allocated Tshepang Moremi at the far post, who was unfortunately denied by the upright.

Not too much separated the two teams in the closing stages, with the Amakhosi going on to bag victory and continue their perfect start to the season.
