Sundowns drop points at Mngqithi's Arrows

Betway Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns endured a frustrating evening after playing to a 1-1 draw by Golden Arrows on Wednesday evening.

Changes from Masandawana saw Denis Onyango Aubrey Modiba, Mosa Lebusa, Thapelo Morena, Bathusi Aubaas and Tashreeq Matthews replace Jody February, Asekho Tiwani, Lucas Suarez, Khuliso Mudau, Teboho Mokoena, and Iqraam Rayners.

Abafana Besthende pinned the reigning champions earlier on, but the reigning champions remained unfazed amidst the pressure.

Having sustained the pressure, Masandawana closed-in to the opener when top-scorer Lucas Ribeiro's long-range attempt had Ismail Watenga in some bother.

Masandawana continued to shift the momentum in their favour and overloaded the fullbacks to play their usual combination passes from the middle of the park.

However, the host seized control on the half-hour mark when Keenan Phillips nodded in a pin-point free-kick from Sbonelo Cele.

Phillips' evening turned though five minutes to halftime as he handled Modiba's cross to concede a penalty and saw Ribeiro dispatched to get his 13th league goal of the season.

Sundowns injected fresh faces at the break where Suarez came on for Malibongwe Khoza before Mokoena stepped on in the place of Jayden Adams.

Masandawana seemed to have gone ahead minutes in as Peter Shalulile broke ahead of the last defender to fire in off the post, but he was called for offside.

However, Sundowns continued to pile up the chances when clever foot-work from Ribeiro teed-up Matthews in an awkward scenario but he steered wide of the bottom-corner.

The opportunities didn't stop coming later on as substitute Arthur Sales guided a snap shot from a first-time pass on the edge of the box wide of the far-post.

Sales was in again minutes to fulltime with a half-volley in off the ground from close-range, but Watenga repelled and saw the clash end 1-1 .
