Struggling Magesi secure first win in 2025

Magesi FC picked up their first win this year in the Betway Premiership after defeating Cape Town City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

City were unchanged from the draw with Golden Arrows midweek, as Magesi restored key forward Wonderboy Makhubu and Tshepo Kakora.

Kakora got a perfect chance to break the deadlock just moments after the start, but he couldn't get the desired accuracy in attack.

City weren't out of their shelve but maintained a fair share of the overall territorial play and chances towards the back of the net.

Makhubu couldn't continue with the rest of the game after an injury on the half-hour mark and saw recent addition Thabang Sibanyoni come on to replace him.

Sibanyoni made a telling impact just in the closing quarter and drew a foul in the box to win a penalty and saw Mcedi Vandala net the resultant spot-kick.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral turned to the dugout before the resumption and introduced Sibusiso Ziba in place of Lorenzo Gordinho.

Magesi were unfortunate not to double their lead through a telling effort from close-range by Kakora, but he disappointingly snapped the opening.

The chances didn't end there for the Carling Knockout champions who saw a 35-yard drive from Lehlohonolo Mtshali sail just wide of the top corner.

Mtshali would get on the board with 15 minutes to play as he nestled the bottom-corner with a strike from the cusp of the danger area.

Both teams got chances within the final exchanges from time, but no further efforts showed as Magesi move off the foot of the table into 15th spot.

Confirmed line-ups:

Magesi FC: Chipezeze, Mokone, Darpoh, Makgopa, Vandala, Komane, Mokone, Abrahams, Mtshali, Makhubu, Kakora
