Magesi secure back-to-back wins

Magesi FC secured back-to-back wins in the Betway Premiership after defeating Polokwane City 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Carling Knockout champions secured a much-needed victory last week after defeating Cape Town City, which was only their second win of the league campaign.

The visitors were without Wonderboy Makhubu as Thabang Sibanyoni was recalled to lead the line as coach Owen da Gama's only change from the 2-0 win over Cape Town City last week.

The decision to include Sibanyoni proved to be a fruitful one for Da Gama, as the former University of Pretoria striker opened the scoring in the 19th minute with his first goal for the club.

This was only the second meeting in the top-flight between the two sides, but Rise and Shine claimed a 2-0 win in September but they were finding it tough to break down the Magesi defence this time around.

Rise and Shine coach Phuti Mohafe waited until after the hour mark to make his first change of the gam, as Raymond Daniels made way for Sibusiso Tshabalala in the midfield.

There would be no comeback from Polokwane in the closing stages as Magesi held on for the win, which sees the side move within one point of 14th-place Marumo Gallants.

Confirmed line-up:

Polokwane City: Sapunga, Makhubela, Gwangqa, Nikani, Nkaki, Kambala, Ramabu, Batlhabane, Daniels, Marema, Appollis

Subs: Mathebula, Baloyi, Motsa, Manthonsi, Maphangule, Goovadia, Ntamane, Nana, Tshabalala

Magesi: Chipezeze, Mokone, Darpoh, Makgoga, Vandala, Komane, Komone, Abrahams, Mtshali, Sibanyoni, Kakora

Subs: Tshabalala, Matima, Buthelezi, Mekoa, Manzini, Masegela, Rademeyer, Makhubela, Mashikinya
