Richards Bay pull clear of drop zone with PLK City scalp

Richards Bay FC moved further away from the relegation zone in the Betway Premiership after defeating Polokwane City 2-0 on Saturday night.

Romario Dlamini and Ntlonelo Bomelo were introduced from the eleven that started the win over Marumo Gallants FC, while the highly-rated Oswin Appollis picked out City's stall.

Bomelo, who was on strike in the win over Gallants, looked to make it two goals from two matches through a header at the near post though goalkeeper Brian Bwire parried him.

City battled to get higher up and pin the host who instead put the brakes on the variations of Appollis, Simon Ramabu and Raymond Daniels.

Rise and Shine refreshed their approach up top before the second half and hauled in the long-serving Puleng Tlolane from the bench in place of Thato Letshedi.

The change didn't reap rewards moments later when Tlakusani Mthethwa rose high in the box to head a pin-point corner into the near post.

Phuti Mohafe's boys looked for a quick reply, but Daniels and key men Appollis were unable to breakthrough the low-block that the host applied.

Richards Bay made the clash comfortable in the last 20 minutes when Bomelo latched onto Keegan Allan's knockdown in the box and volleyed in the top corner.

New addition Mduduzi Mdantsane came on to make his debut for Richards Bay ten minutes from time and saw Thulani Gumede make way.

Monty Batlhabane almost got one back for the visitors with a snap shot from the edge of the box, but he shaved the top corner.

As a result, the Natal Rich Boys jumped to 12th on the table, leaving City in third-place.
