Stellenbosch hand Tinkler first loss at Sekhukhune

Stellenbosch FC climbed to third spot on the Betway Premiership table with a 2-1 victory away to Sekhukhune United on Sunday evening.

Babina Noko Coach Eric Tinkler handed a start to Ohizu, who netted the late winner against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday evening.

Stellenbosch, meanwhile, were delighted to welcome goalkeeper Sage Stephens and Olivier Touré back from suspension, but Brian Onyango missed out after his red card against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday evening.

The visitors opened the scoring on eight minutes as Lesiba Nku get his first league goal of the season by nodding home a cross from Devin Titus.

Sekhukhune could have been back on level terms on 20 minutes when Stephens pushed Keletso Makgalwa's powerful shot back into danger, but defender Katlego Mohamme blasted over from close range.

The hosts did get their reward on 30 minutes as Makgalwa floated an inviting ball into the box, where Ohizu got ahead of his marker and headed into the bottom corner for his second goal in as many games.

Both sides came out fighting in the second half, with Stellenbosch going close to restoring their lead just before the hour mark as Thato Khiba sent his close-rang header over the crossbar.

However, Stellenbosch got their lead back in the 70th minute as Khiba made up for the early miss and fired past Badra Ali Sangaré with his first league goal of the season.

Sekhukhune went close to pulling level in the final five minutes but Ellis Rammala's free-kick crashed against the crossbar as Steve Barker's charges held on for maximum points in Limpopo.
