SuperSport remain in danger after CT City stalemate

SuperSport United remain in the relegation zone after playing to a goalless draw against Cape Town City on Sunday evening.

Matsatsantsa interim coach Andre Arendse recalled veteran duo Thulani Hlatshwayo and Bradley Grobler, as City welcomed back Thamsanqa Mkhize and Tshegofatso Nyama back from injury and suspension respectively.

There was not too much shown by the two in the earlier stages, seeing the moments to breaking the deadlock few and far between.

It remained a slow opening spell with little clear-cut moments on either end and somewhat unbalanced the overall phase of the encounter.

Lebohang Maboe got a golden chance for the host with a header from a pin-point cross by Christian Saile, but it went well over target.

The encounter remained tense towards the final stages to halftime and instead reduced the respective outfits to a fierce tussle for possession.

SuperSport looked to seize control ten minutes in the second half when Maboe ran in on the far side and forced a save off Darren Keet following a low speculative shot.

The Citizens sat on the edge of their own defensive box, restricting space for the host whilst applying a smart counter-attacking approach.

Matsatsantsa turned to the bench for inspiration and decided to bring on Vincent Pule in the place of Saile while Pogiso Sanoka was also introduced.

It injected a lot of pace and all-round energy particularly in the offensive phase, but breaking the deadlock remained a challenge.

An even set of affairs before the close of play set through, as the result leaves the two charges in troubled territory on the table.

Confirmed line-ups:

SuperSport United: Goss, Mobbie, Hlatshwayo, Moralo, Lungu, Okon, Maboe, Saile, Ndlovu, Lakay, Grobler
