Stuttering Chiefs fall to CT City

Kaizer Chiefs' stuttering form in the DStv Premiership continued after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City at FNB Stadium.

Sibongiseni Mthethwa made his full debut for Chiefs, who welcomed back goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune in place of the injured Brandon Petersen, while City named 17-year-old Shakeel April in the match day squad.

Chiefs were keen to settle the quickest over ten minutes played and saw Pule Mmodi force City goalkeeper Darren Keet into a low save at the near post following a snap shot from a tight angle.

The intense spell of pressure continued from the Amakhosi who forced the Citizens in their own before having numerous efforts from Ashley Du Preez, Yusuf Maart and Mmodi blocked away.

City for the better part set out a low-block but went inches close to the lead when Khanyisa Mayo nodded wide following a pin-point cross five minutes ahead of halftime.

The chances opened up minutes later as Christian Saile Basomboli got acres of space in the area only to head wide of the far post.

However, City were ahead 12 minutes in the second half after Darwin Gonzalez played a one-two in the half-spaces with Taahir Goedeman and crossed for Mayo to head in the back-post.

This urged the Amakhosi to bring on fresh faces, as the returning Keagan Dolly came on as well as Ranga Chivaviro with Mmodi and Saile sacrificed by coach Molefi Ntseki.

Chiefs were revived inside the closing quarter and came close to the equaliser when Njabulo Ngcobo's point-blank header from Dolly's free-kick forced an equally solid save off Keet.

The Amakhosi continued pushing through close-range efforts from Dolly and Chivaviro in the latter stages, but neither found target and left the Citizens to victory.
