Chiefs' Top 8 hopes dented after fiery draw with Galaxy

Ten-man Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy played to a 2-2 draw in DStv Premiership action at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

Njabulo Ngcobo, Dillon Solomons, Edmilson Dove, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Mduduzi Shabalala and Ranga Chivaviro came back in the fold for the Soweto giants.

Chivaviro had a chance to announce in his return in style minutes in as he managed to get a head in from a delivery, but goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari's outstretched save smothered him.

The Rockets launched a reply moments apart where Sphiwe Mahlangu stepped in the box to get a shot away from close-range following a loose clearance, but goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma made the save.

Chivaviro got another opportunity and made it count this time when he robbed possession in a decent position and comfortably dispatched beyond Ntwari.

Galaxy were given a lifeline on the half-hour mark and won a spot-kick after Dove handled in the area, leaving Mahlangu to do the honours and levelled matters.

Ntwari made himself big minutes thereafter where he stepped a few yards from his area to guide Ngcobo's ferocious shot behind for a corner-kick.

Chiefs were reduced to ten men on the stroke of halftime as Dove received a second yellow card for a rash challenge in an advanced position.

Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe was brought on by the host at halftime in place of Saile in a quest to balance the scale following the dismissal.

Chivaviro came good once more five minutes in the second period and secured a brace when he fired in the bottom-corner following a low free-kick.

The Amakhosi were keen to add a third later on as a fierce shot from range by Frosler deflected off Mpho Mvelase and forced Ntwari to tip behind.

Galaxy clawed their way back once more when a corner-kick from Higor Vidal in at the near post saw Mahlangu rose high to head past a diving Bvuma.

As the game opened up, Chivaviro could've claimed a hat-trick inside the final five minutes through a curling shot from the box but snapped wide of the bottom-corner.

With challenges flying in from both sides, Chiefs had substitute goalkeeper Brandon Peterson dismissed in remonstration of a challenge on Pule Mmodi.

In the end, the spoils were shared with the Amakhosi still in eight spot on the table and the Rockets in fifth-place.
