Orlando Pirates suffered back-to-back losses in the DStv Premiership after going 3-2 to Stellenbosch FC on Friday night.
Patrick Maswanganyi came back from suspension and replaced Katlego Otladisa as the Buccaneers' only change, while the absence of Fawaaz Basadien allowed Stellies to feature Qobolwakhe Sibande and Darrel Matsheke got the nod ahead of Genino Palace in midfield.
Pirates should've bagged the lead on eight minutes through a first-time shot by Evidence Makgopa from an improvised free-kick pattern by Deon Hotto, but the effort rolled across the face of goal.
Hotto looked to take matters in his own hands seven minutes later when he broke in between the lines to bring Maswanganyi's peach delivery in his stride though flashed wide of the far corner.
The Buccaneers were awarded a penalty when Thabo Moloisane handled in the area from a header by Tapelo Xoki, who converted the resultant spot-kick to give them a 1-0 lead on the half-hour mark.
Moloisane got a huge chance to redeem himself for his earlier indiscretion, but he was unable to direct a free-header from a pin-point ball on target.
The missed chance was punished as the host extended the lead when Makgopa met a cutback at the near post from Fortune Makaringe and back-heeled under the clutches of Sage Stephens.
Makaringe didn't cover himself in glory towards the midway point as his failure to deal with a far post delivery allowed Iqraam Rayners to latch into the bottom-corner.
Stellies were level with over 20 minutes to play when more uncertain bit of defending by the Buccaneers saw Devon Titus head in on the follow-up.
It was a complete turnaround as substitute Andre De Jong peeled off one challenge in the area and volleyed in Van Wyk's cross from the left of the area.
Hotto got a chance to salvage a point with a low teasing free-kick in additional time, but Stephens tipped away as his outfit claimed the win to go third on the table.
