SuperSport United moved level on points with Orlando Pirates after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Chiefs dropped Samkelo Zwane from the derby loss to Orlando Pirates and welcomed back Mduduzi Shabalala, Edmilson Dove and Dillon Solomons, with Keenan Phillips restored by United.
It was an even opening as the two sides went at each other with fierce challenges across all areas, relentless pressing and overall strong defensive play.
The Amakhosi looked promising every time they switched play to the wide and over the top to Christian Saile Basomboli, but Phillips was on hand and courted the big target-man.
Matsatsantsa did have the clearer opening ten minutes to halftime after a pin-point header in the area from Bradley Grobler off Thapelo Maseko's cross drew a superb point-blank save off Brandon Peterson.
Peterson didn't cover himself in glory five minutes later though as he flapped a long ball straight in the path of Ghampani Lungu who duly tucked into the near post.
There were no substituttions made by either side as the second half commenced, with the Amakhosi on the back-foot and in need of a turnaround.
Chiefs did turn to the dugout ten minutes from the break albeit forcefully as a knock forced Dove to make way for Zitha Kwinika whereas Kgaogelo Sekgota replaced Shabalala.
Matsatsantsa managed to have the lion share of chances following the interval and forced the Glamour Boys to hold tight at the half-way line.
The Amakhosi did have a strong closing through moves in behind and shots from afar through Yusuf Maart before substitute Zwane headed in the side-netting.
In the end, the boys from the nation's capital bagged the win and officially scrapped the Amakhosi's top-two hopes while strengthening their very own.
