'I would dribble past opponents until their shorts were torn'

In this edition of In The Spotlight, KickOff catches up with former Moroka Swallows star Timothy 'RDP' Nkosi.

Growing up, who was your idol?

"Growing up, my idol was the late Patrick 'Ace' Ntsoelengoe. I liked him with all my heart. They used to call him 'Mabheka phansi njenge sambane.' He is the reason I asked for jersey number 12 when I started playing professionally. It shows how much I admired him."

Is he the player you modeled your game on?

"Not really. I just liked the way he played and carried himself. However, I was more of a dribbler. I would dribble past opponents until their shorts were torn."

What was your favorite team?

"I was always a Kaizer Chiefs fan because of my dad, but I switched to Sundowns when I started playing professionally. I was born in Mamelodi, so why not?"

Who was your best friend in football?

"I cannot name just one because I moved around a lot, and as a result, I made friends wherever I went. At Swallows, it was Aubrey Lekwane. At Mthatha Bucks, it was Innocent Mayoyo. And at Ria Stars, it was Gerald Raphahlela."

Who is your favourite current player in South Africa?

"Shikabala—that's Themba Zwane. That boy knows football."

If you could join any PSL team as a player right now, which club would it be?

"I'd go to Kaizer Chiefs."

Have you ever cheated in the game?

"Every time I kicked an opposing player, I'd lie down and scream, pretending to be injured to avoid getting a red card."

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you go?

"South Africa. Why would I want to go anywhere else? I like it here and nowhere else."
