Khune raves about 'quality' Riveiro

Kaizer Chiefs' Itumeleng Khune opened up on working alongside Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro as the pair were part of the Carling All-Stars XI that lifted the Carling Cup on Saturday.

Having received the most votes from supporters, Khune captained the side to a 2-1 victory over Stellies thanks to goals from Kaizer Chiefs teammates Mfundo Vilakazi and Ashley du Preez.

Meanwhile, Riveiro has also received the most votes among coaches and led from the dugout to lift his fourth trophy since his arrival in South Africa.

Speaking to media after the match, Khune emphasised that Riveiro's track record spoke for itself and that credit should to go to the Spaniard and the technical team.

"I think the results and the performance today gives you answers of how he (Riveiro) is as a coach," said Khune.

"Since he's been in the country, he's been here for two seasons. He has won three cups already for his club. It gives the sense that he's a great coach.

"The fact that his club went all the way to Spain to get him, they believe in him. Same as the fans here at home, they voted for him amongst 16 other coaches.

"So, it shows quality as a coach, it shows how much he's dedicated to the game. His winning mentality.

"I mean he assembled the team for two days, he managed to prepare us and people wrote us off. I mean you would have given Stellenbosch a win just before the game started.

"But the fact that we got two early goals, it shows that we responded very well as players. The coach and the rest of the coaching staff deserve credit."
