In this edition of My First, KickOff speaks to former Bloemfontein Celtic player, Kleinbooi Taaibos.
Today, Taaibos is married to the very same girl who gave him his first kiss.
My First School:
"I attended Bronville Primary School in Welkom. It's funny, though— even though my cousins and I were the same age, I was the one tasked with looking after them. I was also a little bit scared, which is normal for a young kid."
My First Kiss:
"I was a bit older when I finally had my first kiss. I was 19 years old, and it was from the very woman I'm married to today— the mother of my three children."
My First Child:
"My first child came while I was at Bloemfontein Celtic, and I was old enough to be a father. He is now 18 years old and currently in Matric."
My First Favourite Club:
"My favourite club was Kaizer Chiefs. I grew up idolizing players like Shakes Kungwane, Doctor Khumalo, and Frank Makua. When marking, you wouldn't know who to pick!"
My First Soccer Boots:
"My first soccer boots were Lotto. My parents bought them for me when I was around 13 or 14 years old."
My First Red Card:
"I have never received a red card. Maybe it's because I was disciplined on the field."
My First Own Goal:
"I have never scored an own goal. I think I have good timing [laughs]. It's usually a lack of concentration that causes others to make such errors."
My First Goal:
"I don't remember the exact season, but I remember scoring against Black Leopards. We were playing one-twos, I found myself inside their box, and I hit it with my big toe— it went in!"
My First Individual Award:
"I received my first individual award at Bloemfontein Celtic during their time in the NFD. I was voted Sportsman of the Year."
My First Trophy With A Club:
"I won the NFD league trophy, which earned us straight promotion to the PSL. That was in 2003."
My First Car:
"My first car was a VW Golf 5. They had just landed in the country, and back then, they weren't too expensive. Mine cost around R300,000, and it was brand new. I paid in instalments during my second season in the PSL, around 2004 to 2005."
