PSL clubs accused of emotionally blackmailing players

Former South African Football Players Union Secretary General Sipho Ndzuzo claims that South African clubs have a method of exploiting footballers.

Ndzuzo believes that clubs should be held accountable for players' dissatisfaction with their compensation.

"From the contract negotiations, that's where the challenges begin," Ndzuzo tells KickOff.

"These young, up-and-coming players are simply excited to sign their first contracts; they don't really know what to expect during these negotiations.

"Some of them negotiate with clubs without any guidance, and those who do bring someone for assistance often choose individuals who lack knowledge about dealing with football clubs—these are not true agents but merely people who are there to listen.

"These players are in a very vulnerable position at that time. They tend to accept any offer simply because they want to see themselves become professional players. Soccer clubs exploit this vulnerability.

"We must hold the clubs responsible for not providing players with proper guidance on contracts.

"Players being developed by these professional clubs often experience emotional manipulation.

"They are told things like, 'We have given you the opportunity of a lifetime; we made you who you are.' To me, that's emotional blackmail, and in the end, these issues catch up with the players."
