Richards Bay thrash Baroka to retain DStv Prem status

Richards Bay FC thumped Baroka FC 4-0 and retained their DStv Premiership status on Wednesday afternoon.

The host brought in Tshepo Mabua for Nkosikhona Ndaba and Thato Mohlamme ahead of Ntsako Makhubela from the draw with the University of Pretoria on Saturday, while Bakgaga restored Boy Madingwana, Khomotso Lekoloane and Ananias Gebhardt.

Richards Bay missed a perfect chance five minutes after kick-off to make the breakthrough as a cutback to the area allowed Sanele Barns in, but he scuffed the effort well wide.

Forward Yanela Mbuthuma seeked to go one better four minutes apart when he made space in behind to beat the offside trap to run clear and stung the gloves of Katlego Molefe.

Bakgaga wasted a golden chance midway through the first half as Kabelo Kgositsile tucked over from a dummy in the area with the goal at his mercy.

The Natal Rich Boys upped the ante seven minutes to the break as Somila Ntsundwana displayed sharp instincts in the area to bring a cross under control and volleyed in acrobatically.

No reprieve came for Bakgaga three minutes to halftime and succumbed again when Barns' curling free-kick deflected off the defensive-wall on-route to the far corner of the net.

Substitutions ahead of the second half saw Bakgaga bring on Dan Ndhlovu for Siyabonga Mtombeni, with Mohlamme removed for Thulani Gumede on the side of Richards Bay.

Ntsundwana caused more havoc for the visitors where he made a surging run out wide to get hold of a diagonal ball and finished across a sprawling Molefe to bag a brace.

Bakgaga remained susceptible to chance as the match continued to open up as Gumede broke through the lines to move towards the near side and slammed off the side-netting.

The Natal Rich Boys didn't stop piling the misery five minutes from time when Lwandile Mabuya rushed to a loose ball after Molefe palmed Khuda Muyaba's shot and tucked in to make it four.

At the end, the Natal Rich Boys cruised to a commanding victory to re-affirm their place in the DStv Premiership next season as Bakgaga head back to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
