Stellenbosch FC star Nathan Sinkala reveals previous interest from Kaizer Chiefs & Mamelodi Sundowns

Stellenbosch FC star Nathan Sinkala has revealed details of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns' interest in him prior to his move to the Western Cape.

Stellenbosch pulled off a remarkable coup in the 2020 January transfer window when the club beat DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to the signature of Zambia international Sinkala.

At the time, the combative midfielder, who boasts CAF Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup winners' medals to his name, was available on a free transfer after his contract with Congolese giants TP Mazembe had expired.

Sinkala was widely tipped to complete a move to Gauteng, with his representatives speaking with both Amakhosi and the reigning champions, but he ultimately sought out a different challenge at Stellenbosch instead.

"TP Mazembe wanted me to stay on, but I wanted a new challenge," he tells snl24.com/kickoff. "It is true that there were offers from Sundowns and Chiefs, but those negotiations were dealt with between my agent and the clubs.

"After that, he came back to me and told me there was this team who was new to the PSL who wanted me, Stellenbosch, and I said yes because I wanted that challenge."
