Thamsanqa Gabuza: SuperSport United striker explains new bopha goal celebration

SuperSport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza has explained where his new unique bopha goal celebration came from after it got tongues wagging amongst supporters.

Gabuza, 34, has started the new season in impressive form with his three goals in the opening five games firing SuperSport into second place behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

And in their recent 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United, it was not just his early-season displays that garnered attention but rather his flamboyant celebrations after scoring.

"It's straight from the training ground my man, we celebrate when we score in training, I was scoring a lot at training and my teammates liked my new celebration," Gabuza tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"We then started talking about it in the dressing room abhuti and on the day we said, today we're going to do that celebration, we know we're going to work hard and score for the team."

The former Orlando Pirates man went on to add that he's also sending a message out to be responsible on the roads.

"Arrive alive my man, I'm sending a message too because bopha, bopha, bopha means arrive," he explained before warning a few more celebrations might catch the eyes within the Matsantsansa squad this season.

"There are many celebrations here my man, you will see, you've only see two now! At the end of the day, we doing it as teamwork and [to improve] morale.

"There's new ones in training and now the boys are itching to score, you also see every player gets involved when we score and celebrate."

Kaitano Tembo's side face 14th placed Chippa United next in the league on Saturday afternoon at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium (15h00).
