'I won the league four times with TP Mazembe'

In this edition of Where Are They Now, KickOff speaks to the legendary Congolese defender Felix Muamba Musasa about his life after football.

Musasa is popular in South Africa after serving both Orlando Pirates and Mpumalanga Black Aces with aplomb.

Tell us about your playing days. Are you happy with how your football career turned out?

"Hola. Mzansi Fo Sho. I love South Africa my second country. Before Orlando Pirates, I used to play for TP Mazembe. I enjoyed my life there. After that, I moved to Muzansi, where I enjoyed my life at Orlando Pirates 100%. I have no complaints. They are one of the biggest clubs in Africa. And also I did enjoy my football at Mpumalanga Black Aces. I would like to thank the president of South African football, Dr.Irvin Khoza, for welcoming me into South African football. I also thank the Morfou family at Aces, I was their captain for seven years."

What's your biggest highlight?

"Seventeen games unbeaten with coach Kosta Papic at Orlando Pirates."

What's your biggest achievement?

"I achieved a lot at TP Mazembe at the start of my career. I won the league four times with TP Mazembe. My second biggest achievement should be helping Mpumalanga Black Aces get promoted to the PSL, and playing the Nedbank Cup final with Sundowns."

Did you make money from football?

"Yeah, I did make money with Orlando Pirates, TP Mazembe, and Mpumalanga Black Aces. Irvin Khoza and the Morfou brothers helped me make money in football. Thank you, Mzansi. Thank you, South Africa."

Where are you currently living?

"Currently I'm living in Congo, the DRC. The country of many, many minerals [laughs]."

Which year did you retire and what was the reason for retiring?

"I retired in 2017. I wanted to continue with my other career as a fitness coach, I did my D and C licenses in South Africa. The last club I played for was Garankuwa United."

Are there any other jobs you've done since you stopped playing?

"To me, it has always been training, gym, training, gym, training, gym, always.

Your current job?

"I'm with the second team of TP Mazembe. I have been coaching here for the past five years. I'm there as a physical trainer."

If you could do it again?

"I'd help my teammates to work more hard and be disciplined. My wish is to one day come back and be a fitness trainer at Orlando Pirates."
