Truter: We gave away one man Chiefs gifted us

Richards Bay head coach Brandon Truter says he was disappointed they did not utilize their numerical advantage after a 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

The Natal Rich Boyz were trailing 1-0 when Amakhosi were down to ten men following Reeve Frosler's sending off after the break.

However, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit could not capitalize after Ashley Du Preez doubled the lead for The Glamour Boys midway through the second stanza.

Richards Bay only started to threaten in the dying minutes as Yamela Mbuthuma pulled a goal back in stoppages.

"They gave us a bit of a problem in the wider areas. We came out [in the second stanza] and changed the formation. They get a man sent off, which gave us an upper hand, we changed the game, being on the front foot," Truter told SuperSport TV.

"But the goals we conceded...We did not pick up the second ball, we went to sleep. There are certain moments in the game the coach can't coach, that situation belongs to the player.

"That's where decisions-making, awareness and a bit of quality comes in and I think we were let down by that tonight, because some decisions were baffling, especially with time on the ball.

"The one man Chiefs gifted us we gave it away, we rushed things, our composure let us down. These are moments which comes down to IQ, awareness and a bit of quality.

"But it's an ongoing process, it's not the result we were hoping for but we can't let our heads down, we still have a game in 72 hours. A bit disappointed with some individuals but it's an ongoing process."

Richards Bay will be involved in a KwaZulu-Natal derby on Saturday when they host AmaZulu.
