Truter: I'd rather not let it come from me

Brandon Truter has opened up on reports that he has been relieved of his head coach duties at Richards Bay FC, speaking exclusively to KickOff.

Truter was appointed as coach of the Natal Rich Boyz at the beginning of the season, in a surprise move after Vusumuzi Vilakazi was previously at the helm and in charge of pre-season preparations.

Vilakazi saved the side's status after winning the PSL promotion-relegation play-offs, following their 15th-place finish in the last campaign.

However, big ambitions by sponsor Phakwe Gas and its CEO Thabiso Tenyane saw the KZN club make coaching changes, shortly after a R100 million sponsorship was announced.

After a 2-1 defeat to 10-man Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday in the Betway Premiership, reports emerged that Richards Bay had parted ways with Truter.

Speaking to KickOff.com, the former Moroka Swallows mentor has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing for him to leave the club, although he did not want to go into further details.

"Look, there's still negotiations happening. Once all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed, then only I will confirm," Truter said.

"But right now, I'm not confirming anything. You have to speak to the club and hopefully get confirmation from them.

"Ja, I saw the stuff in the media, but I'd rather not let it come from me because of negotiations and things like that. It would be better if you get a statement from the club."

The team reached the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout, before they were eliminated by eventual champions Magesi FC under the man affectionately known as 'Brakkies'.

However, their league form could not improve, as the defeat to Amakhosi extended their winless run to seven games, thus dropping down to 14th in the standings.

They have a crucial league encounter against provincial rivals AmaZulu FC on Saturday afternoon.

Richards Bay could not be reached for comment in time before publishing this story, but efforts to reach out to the club continue as, judging by the coach's comments, the two parties are headed for a parting of ways.
