Richards Bay part ways with key player?

Richards Bay are understood to have set the ball rolling with internal changes at the club with the departure of a key player. 

Insiders have informed this website that the club is understood to have terminated the contract of midfielder Katlego Maphathe, ahead of their Carling Knockout Cup against Orlando Pirates in Durban on Saturday.

Maphathe's departure from the Natal Rich Boys has come as a big shock after the player was instrumental in helping the team gain promotion to the top flight last season. The 30-year-old is expected to vacant the clubhouse today and set to head home in Cape Town this evening.

According to sources, Maphathe is set to finalize his settlement with the club before the end of this week. 

"This is a big shock. He met with the club yesterday where his contract was terminated," said a source, revealing to KickOff.

"He is so disappointed and it's still no clear why his contract was terminated", he added.

Contacted for comment, Maphathe refused to discuss the his contract and referred KickOff to the club. 

Maphathe only made four appearances for Richards Bay this season.
