In this edition of Supporters Forum, KickOff catches up with Richards Bay FC's number one fan Mandlenkosi "Mboro" Shandu about his long-standing affair with the Natal Rich Boyz.
"Mboro" who also doubles up as the club's caretaker, says his biggest fear is to see the KwaZulu-Natal club get relegated at the end of the current season.
Name of supporter?
"My real name is Mandlenkosi Shandu, I officially started supporting football in 2007. I've been through a lot because of football, I've lost jobs because I used to leave work to rush to football matches.
"I've spent three years not working because of football. I had to survive on the R350 government grant for the unemployed. Before that, I used to work at Spar.
"That's where I got the nickname Mboro, apparently my former colleagues at Spar likened me to some pastor."
Club supported?
"I was a Mamelodi Sundowns supporter for a long time, but had to dump them after I realized that their management won't even bother coming to my funeral if I happen to die."
How long supported?
"I have been supporting Richard Bay since 2017."
Are you happy with the Bosses?
"I enjoy a great relationship with the chairman Jomo Biyela, but still, I might be happy as a fan only to find that the players are not. Njengamanje iqembu livika imbazo ngezandla."
Are you happy with the coach?
"I haven't seen much of the current coach because he is still new, but I was happy with his appointment because we had suffered a lot under the previous one whom I believe we took too long to release. I just wish Vusimuzi Vilakazi joined us earlier
"I don't understand why we are struggling because at Richards Bay we all receive our salaries on time."
Are you happy with the players?
"Our players are okay but our strikers are not scoring goals. We are now facing relegation due to the lack of goals.
"So I can't be happy with the players if the club will be relegated very soon."
Who do you want them to sign?
"My wish is to see Mpho Mvelase at Richards Bay FC, and also Bienvenue Eva Nga, but we couldn't get Eva Nga due to his high demands. On the other hand Sanele Barnes is leaving us for Stellenbosch FC, things are not looking good for us at the moment to be honest."
Your message to the team?
"My message is directed to the club's supporters, please let's not stop supporting the club now that we are facing difficult times. The chairman is doing everything to make sure we attend games, he provides free buses to all our home games, so let's not lose hope yet, let's continue supporting the boys. This is the time when they need us most."
