Vilakazi details Richards Bay role

Second-bottom DStv Premiership side Richards Bay FC surprised many recently when they unveiled Vusimuzi Vilakazi in a senior coach capacity.

Current incumbent Kaitano Tembo was appointed at the start of the season after the club's indifferent debut campaign and have gone off to a slow start.

Despite reaching the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout after eliminating Orlando Pirates on post-match penalties, the Natal Rich Boys' league form hasn't had the same rhythm and have recorded just two wins from 12 matches.

Vilakazi, who was a co-coach at Golden Arrows alongside Mabhuti Khenyeza at the start of the season left to join Chippa United as technical director before leaving to become the senior coach of the Natal Rich Boys and explains his role.

"We work together, we take decisions both of us.  But he still remains as the head coach, I might have something different and he might something different but he is still having the right maybe to say maybe we can go for this one, and my responsibility is to make sure I support him," Vilakazi told GameON on Radio 2000.

Since promotion to the elite league at the start of last season, Richards Bay have had Pitso Dladla, Vasili Manousakis and now the combination of Tembo and Vilakazi as coaches of the club.

The structure of the latter isn't a case where the other will undermine the other, but it's a fruitful relationship for the benefit of the team.

"Actually, I'm here to help him in terms of fitting in his weaknesses, and also, he must do the very same thing in fitting into my weaknesses for the betterment of the club.

"So, there's no way where we will say he is someone who is undermining anyone just because of the title, no we work together because we know the task is huge ahead of us in terms of making sure that we grind results and find a better position for the club come the end of the season," Vilakazi continued.
