Royal AM keep CAFCC journey alive

Royal AM progressed to the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round with a 2-0 victory over Highlanders in the second leg on Friday evening.

Thwihli Thwahla qualified for the competition for the first time after finishing third on the table last season.

Royal AM earned a credible goalless draw in the first-leg, with co-coach Abram Nteo the only one of three coaches on the bench and the majority of their regulars in the line-up.

With the second-leg at home, it was imperative that Royal AM do not concede an away goal, which counts double in case of a tie on aggregate.

Thwihli Thwahla kept with the theme of keeping it tight at the back in the first stanza and broke the deadlock just before the interval courtesy of Elias Pelembe to take the lead on the day and also on aggregate.

Having the danger of conceding an away goal, Ruzaigh Gamildien eventually settled the nerves for the home side in the last two minutes as he doubled their lead and killed the game.

Royal AM will now meet Zambian giants Zesco United in the second preliminary round, which gets underway next month.
