Matlaba: We are the favourites not Chiefs

Royal AM full-back Thabo 'Festival' Matlaba believes they are the ones carrying the favourites tag going into Sunday's Nedbank Cup quarterfinal and not Kaizer Chiefs.

Matches between the two clubs are always entertaining and this one promise to be no exception.

The Nedbank Cup provides Amakhosi with an opportunity to win their first trophy in eight years.

What puts Chiefs under more pressure is that rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates have respectively already won the DStv Premiership title and the MTN8 Cup this season.

Kick-Off at Chatsworth Stadium is at 18:00.

"Obviously Royal AM are favourites with all the experience we have in the team," Matlaba tells KickOff.

"Ya it's the big one on the weekend, but as much as Kaizer Chiefs didn't win any trophy in like eight years now, it doesn't mean anything.

"Kaizer Chiefs is a very good team, they've got very good youngsters with a few experienced players.

"So they are doing well, to be honest. They are playing well, to be honest.

"But even us we need something this season. We really need something to show we have worked hard this season.

"We really want this Nedbank Cup also. But it's not going to be an easy game, to be honest.

"But it's a cup game it's supposed to be different. Cup games are very different, we can even play for 120 minutes…So it's never easy.

"We are ready and willing to win the game, but Kaizer Chiefs is not the team you can disrespect.

"We will give them the respect they deserve, but at the same time, we will go out and make sure that we win the game because the last time in Polokwane they beat us. So Royal AM is winning.

"It is not going to be easy, but we are winning this one."
