"It was Lamontville Golden Arrows in 2010. I was from the school TUT [Tshwane University of Technology] soccer team. That was my first year in professional football."
How Much Was It?
"My First Pay Cheque was R7000. That was in 2010. Those days it was not so bad you know R7000, imagine coming straight from school football to earning R7000.Yes, it was small but not so bad for someone who was just straight from school to a professional team...it was a lot you know. I remember the first one clocked [notify me] on my phone my brother [laughs]. Remember at TUT we were playing in the Vodacom league they used to pay us there but not in the form of money, but it was always a good feeling getting your first salary. I had just finished my second year and was left with my last year. I was an IT student [Information Technology]."
How I Celebrated...
"[Laughs] You know guys from Jozi with stash, we like looking stylish, our love for nice clothes. The nicest thing is at home they gave me a breather for four months to be myself, and enjoy your salary, you will contribute here at home once you start getting a better salary. I got that R7000 four times and my salary was raised from R7000 to R12 500. It happened so fast. I started celebrating immediately after it was reported on my phone that money had been deposited into my account. I think it was on a Friday, I was from training, and I went straight to Gateway."
