Royal AM hold Highlanders in Lobamba

Royal AM's maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign started with a goalless draw against Mbabane Highlanders in the Preliminary round on Sunday afternoon.

The KwaZulu-Natal based outfit gained entry into this season's Confederation Cup following their impressive third-place finish in their debut campaign in the top-flight last season.

Royal AM though entered the match on the back-foot owing to a 1-0 loss in midweek against Richards Bay FC in a KwaZulu-Natal derby clash in the DStv Premiership.

Highlanders narrowly missed out on the MTN Premier League title last season, as rivals Royal Leopards clinched the crown in the end.

Although, Highlanders were touted to be difficult opponents for AM and it proved to be the case as the contest following the first half period finished goalless with neither unable to breakthrough.

The second half were underway and like the opening exchanges, the two outfits struggled to break down each other.

In the end, the two protagonists played out a goalless draw in this first-leg encounter with the return-leg set for this coming Friday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
