Royal AM welcome back John Maduka as Shauwn Mkhize eyes resurgence

DStv Premiership side Royal AM have welcomed back former coach John Maduka as the ambitious Shauwn Mkhize-owned outfit eye a resurgence in the standings.

KickOff previously revealed on Tuesday that Maduka was inching towards a return after holding talks with the Royal AM hierarchy over a return to the club.

Maduka abandoned Royal AM during the off-season and headed out to Maritzburg United due to some issues that he had at the club.

The former Malawi international's departure came as a surprise having led the club to a position three finish and qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup last season.

Yet at Maritzburg his stay was disappointing and short after replacing Ernst Middendorp following the German gaffer's fourth stint with the KwaZulu-Natal club.

From the 13 games that he took charge of he only won twice – against Orlando Pirates and Chippa United – drew five and lost six before being shown the door at the beginning of November.

He left with his assistant Ditheko Mototo and with his contractual issues at Maritzburg now ironed out he has been in talks with Royal AM.

The 52-year-old – whose family is based in Durban – has now completed his return to Royal AM and takes over with the club struggling having won just once in their last nine games.

They have now sunk to the bottom half having been a pale shadow of what they were last season.

They started out the season with a co-coaching arrangement that had Dan Malesela, Khabo Zondo and Abram Nteo.

Malesela quickly left and returned to Marumo Gallants where he has been pushed aside while Zondo has since disappeared from the first team leaving Nteo and Posnet Omony.
