Algeria play down favourites tag against South Africa

The Dessert Foxes topped Group B ahead of Nigeria, who face hosts Senegal in the earlier semi-final, and the winner of each match will guarantee a spot at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Algeria are unbeaten at the tournament so far, but Schurman feels they go into the game on level terms.

“We are not favourites against South Africa; both teams are equal,” he says. “We take every match as it comes. We deserve our place among the last four.

“Like all teams we want to qualify for the Olympics and go as far as possible in the tournament. I'm very proud of my players for what they have shown till now.

“South Africa is a good side and has played well so far.  There is a lot expectation of us. This is an important match and we have to put all our cards on table. It is also important to be fully concentrated."
