The tournament kicks off today with four fixtures taking place in Group A and B; England take on Guinea while Brazil face Korea in Group B. Group A sees Nigeria vs USA and hosts Chile against Croatia.
“We will be watching all the matches today as we look to draw inspiration from the first round of matches. We are looking to score many goals in this World Cup and will be motivated by our African counterparts Nigeria, who are the current title holders,” says Amajimbos striker Khanyisa Mayo.
“This is South Africa’s first ever World Cup, however, it is also the first World Cup for all the players participating in the tournament, therefore we are not intimidated by our opponents.
“We are going to draw strength from this world record we have set and the fact that as the first U-17 group to get here, we will lay the foundation for other groups to follow in our footsteps.”
The Burger King-sponsored Amajimbos will play against Costa Rica on Monday, 19 October at 17h00 (SA time 22h00), then face Korea DPR on Thursday, 22 October at 17h00 (SA time 22h00) and Russia on Sunday, 25 October at 19h00 (SA time 00h00 Monday).
All these matches will be played at Estadio Municipal Ester Roa.
