Amajimbos want Mali revenge

Amajimbos lost to the Malians in the Final in Niger last week, and have asked SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan to set up a repeat match at the FNB Stadium.

Dr Jordaan has already committed to trying to arrange the match, and says it will form as part of their preparations for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup later this year, which Mali, Nigeria and Guinea have also qualified for.

"The immediate thing now is to see if we can get a home match for [Amajimbos] against Mali," says Dr Jordaan. "I think it will be a huge confidence booster [for them] to play against Mali at home."

The president also emphasised the importance of playing against European, Asian and South American opposition ahead of the World Cup in Chile, which is set to kick-off in October this year.

"And then we'll have to look at playing against some European opposition, because there are six teams from Europe that go to the World Cup, so you can accept that someone from Europe will be in our group.

"And then also play against Asian teams and South American teams; the South American teams are always some of the better teams, so we will have to sit and plan this thing and make sure there's thorough preparation [before Amajimbos depart for Chile]," he added.
