Big weekend for Amajita, Amajimbos

Both the country’s Under-20 (Amajita) and Under-17 (Amajimbos) have qualified for the finals of the two continental competitions, which stand as the passageway to the World Cup finals of the two respective age groups.

The Under-20 finals are scheduled for Senegal (March 8-22, 2015), with the top four teams in that tournament in West Africa proceeding to the Under-20 World Cup to be staged in New Zealand from May 30-June 20.

The younger teenagers’ continental jamboree will be held in Niger from February 15-March 1, with the subsequent World Cup finals in Chile from October 17-November 8 next year.

Both Amajita and Amajimbos are aiming to reach the global finals of their respective age groups.

At the CAF finals draw in Cairo, Egypt on Sunday (11h00), Amajita will be drawn against any of Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Ghana, Zambia, Nigeria and the hosts Senegal in a tournament which will have two groups of eight with the top two teams in each pool qualifying for the semi-finals and ultimately the World Cup.

Amajita were guided through their qualification route by Shakes Mashaba.

For Amajimbos – who are coached by Molefi Ntseki – they will have to deal with any of Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Nigeria, Zambia and host nation Niger in their bid to finish as one as one of the top four nations and proceed to the global finals.
