Barker backs SAFA bid to host 2025 African Cup of Nations tournament

Decorated Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker has backed SAFA's purported bid to host the 2025 edition of the continental competition.

Barker remains the only coach to guide the senior men's national team to Afcon glory back in 1996.

CAF have announced the re-opening of bids for the 2025 edition after initial hosts Guinea lost their hosting rights due to inadequate infrastructure.

"Yes, it's about time because we've proved before at the 2010 World Cup that we can host major tournaments," Barker tells KickOff.

"I think we can use that to Bafana Bafana's advantage, that would be fantastic.

"I'll be very proud if it were to happen.

"Playing in such tournaments at home is a win-win situation and the crowd will be like a 12th man.

"It will help us a lot if we get it, if we don't get it then it's all good no problem.

"There's a big buzz in the country when we host tournaments like that, it will keep the love of the game burning.

"I'd vote for it and I'm right behind it."
