Banyana thrashed by Australia

Banyana Banyana suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands Australia in an international Friendly at the Kingsmeadow Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Banyana featured a few of the regulars like Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hildah Magaia, but there was a change between the sticks in Regirl Ngobeni with Gabriella Salgado in the line-up too.

A poor start from the African champions followed and the Australians went ahead through a simple finish by Cortnee Vine after a howler by Ngobeni from a corner-kick.

The intensity from Australia made life difficult for the visitors, who succumbed to a second when Vine tapped in a low cross from the right near the half-hour mark.

Banyana enjoyed some moments in and out possession minutes to halftime, but their comeback hopes fell short as Clare Polkinghorne towered high in the box and headed home a corner-kick.

Desiree Ellis refreshed their stall ahead of the second period, as Salgado made way for Thubelihle Shamase and Thato Letsoso filled in ahead of Sibulele Holweni.

Australia regardless continued their dominant spell and made it four when Caitlin Foord cut inside from an acute angle wide of the six-yard area and slotted into the far corner.

Foord almost bagged a brace too when she rounded Ngobeni from a ball in-behind and fired wide across the face of the far post midway through the second period.

Australia dropped a bit of momentum in the closing minutes and conceded as Magaia spotted the opposite number of the line and dinked over from the edge of the area.

The African champions weren't afforded a second as the clock ticked away and therefore Australia claimed an emphatic victory.
