Lucas Tlhomelang shares Cyril Zuma memories

Zuma passed away in his hometown Ntuzuma on September 4 after he was in a coma after being struck by a car four weeks ago. He will be laid to rest on Sunday.

“I met Cyril in 2005 in the national team when Stuart Baxter was the coach,” Tlhomelang, who will be attending the funeral, tells this website.

“We went to Mauritius to play in the Cosafa Cup and we became friends in camp. After that we met again at City Pillars in 2007 and the team was changed to Mpumalanga Black Aces. We were very close.

“We used to like having a good time, but I used to fight a lot with him – not physical – because I was the captain and he could misbehave by not coming to training. Since he was my friend, the guys would ask me about Cyril’s whereabouts but his phone would be off and I didn't know what to say.

“Otherwise I thank God for his talent because he was really a good player, trust me, and you can see that by the fact that he was one of South Africa’s highest capped players at U23 level. May his soul rest in peace...till we meet again njayam.”
