Owen da Gama believes Algeria goal was offside

A long punt up field and goalscorer Oussama Darfalou found himself behind Kwanda Mngonyama and spotted Jody February was off his line, and all he had to do was lob it over him.

Replays were unclear and Darfalou may have started in an offside position when the ball was kicked, but it also appeared that Abbubaker Mobara at right-back may have been too slow to push up and played him on.

“Very disappointed, very soft goals we conceded. The first goal was a gift and gave Algeria the advantage but I still need to see it as I believe it was offside,” said Da Gama.

“I also hoped for fair play because every time we had the ball, play stopped [because of Algeria fouls]. Be that as it may, we lost.

“The players understand what happened today on the field, I just have to lift their morale because we only have one chance left now.

“Senegal is a good team, but I believe we stand a good chance of still qualifying for Rio. We will regroup after this setback.”

Captain Keagan Dolly added: “We are very disappointed as we expected a win but we just have to pick ourselves up because we still have another important match to play.”
