Owen Da Gama’s side qualified for the CAF Under-23 Championships in Senegal in November, where the top three finishers will qualify for Rio 2016.
Hosts Senegal have been joined by Nigeria, Mali, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Zambia and South Africa for what is also being called the 8-Nations tournament, which runs from November 28 to December 12 in Dakar.
The top three will qualify automatically for the Olympics while the fourth-placed team will face off with an Asian country in a two legged play-off contest. CAF is expected to conduct the draw for the eight-team tournament next month.
The Under-23s made light work of an ill-prepared Zimbabwean team, winning 4-1 on aggregate, while regional rivals Zambia overcame Ivory Coast on penalties following a goalless draw over two legs.
South Africa has only ever qualified for the Olympics once, which was back in 2000 when Shakes Mashaba was in charge of the team.
