Bafana star scoops Player of the Month award abroad

Bafana Bafana French-based striker Lebo Mothiba has been named Strasbourg's Player of the Month for the month of October.

Despite a somewhat poor run of form for the Ligue 1 outfit, that has seen them lose three of their last five matches, Mothiba has been one of the stand-out performers for Strasbourg.

The 27-year-old has also been a key figure for French legend Patrick Viera's side since the start of the season, featuring in 10 of the side's 11 opening matches so far and registered three goals to his name.

In August, Viera described Mothiba as 'extraordinary' and tipped the striker to 'bring nice things' for his side.

"Lebo Mothiba was extraordinary! He works a lot for the team, he spends a lot of time defending. I'm very happy for him. If he maintains this level, he will be able to bring nice things to the team," Viera told journalists after Mothiba's match-winning goal against Olympique Lyon.

Mothiba's form is also unlikely to go unnoticed by Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos who has selected Mothiba as part of the preliminary squad for to name his squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

"I think I said it when he (Mothiba) was in the selection, Lebo [Mothiba] is the type of player that we don't have, the type of striker we don't have," Broos said of Mothiba in September.

"He's strong, and he's powerful. We don't have a striker that can keep a ball, we don't have a striker that has the power of it.

Meanwhile, Mothiba and Co will have a chance to climb up the Ligue 1 table when they take on Brest on Sunday, 12 November.
