Billiat returns to SA again with transfer possibilities

Khama Billiat will be the star attraction this week after returning to South Africa for the latest FIFA dates.

Billiat reversed his decision to call time on his international career and has played in all four of the qualifiers to date in Group J, where Zimbabwe needs to avoid defeat against Kenya to seal their qualification fate.

The Warriors will be the hosts of that game at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday, before they travel to Cameroon for the last group match next Tuesday.

Just like several other countries on the continent, Zimbabwe has been forced to move across the border to play their home games in South Africa since they don't have stadiums that meet CAF requirements.

The 34-year-old played two matches at Orlando Stadium in October as he returned to Mzansi for the first time since he moved back home in February seven months after leaving Kaizer Chiefs.

Billiat's impressive form in the Zim PSL, where he is playing under less demands at Yadah FC, has been the reason why he was asked to come back to the national team.

The slippery forward has scored 13 goals this season and remains in contention for both the Golden Boot and Soccer Star of the Year awards with one match to play.

He scored the opener in a 3-0 win over the weekend with former Maritzburg United and SuperSport United striker Evans Rusike also on target.

Billiat is already reported to be wanted by newly promoted money bags Scotland FC, while there has been mention of a return to the PSL in January with two clubs weighing up the possibility of bringing him back.

What will make Billiat's return less complicated is that he plays as a non-foreigner having acquired a South African ID.

He needs three goals to join the few to ever reach 100 playing for top-flight clubs in South Africa.

Zimbabwe's latest squad has as many as 12 players who are currently playing or have previously played for South African clubs.

Billiat remains popular in South Africa having played for Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Ajax Cape Town, scoring a combined 97 goals.
