The former Maritzburg United coach has been linked with several coaching positions but has opted to reunite with German head coach Josef Zinnbauer.
Davids has been confirmed to have been appointed as an assistant to Zinnbauer.
"Fadlu Davids has been appointed to the coaching staff for the position of assistant head coach of Lokomotiv," read a statement.
"It is a great honor for me to become a part of a big club, such a serious representative of Russian football.
"Lokomotiv Moscow is well known among fans in South Africa because Jacob Lekgetho used to play here.
"I came here to help the team succeed in the near future," Davids is quoted as saying by the club website.

Davids' appointment comes just days after Pitso Mosimane took up the head coaching job at Saudi Arabia second division club Al-Ahli Saudi.
Benni McCarthy is also already part of the technical team of English club Manchester United.
Lokomotiv Moscow have on three previous occasions been league champions in their country and twice reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
Under Zinnbauer – who was appointed in June, almost a year after he left Pirates – Lokomotiv Moscow have started off slow and sit in the bottom half after 10 league games.
