Lakay linked with shock Pyramids exit

Bafana Bafana forward Fagrie Lakay is increasingly appearing likely to head for the exit door at Pyramids based on emerging information from the Egyptian capital.

Lakay has been with Pyramids since January 2022 after moving from DStv Premiership side Cape Town City.

It was a transfer that came with its sizeable share of controversies.

The 26-year-old played under Egyptian coach Ehab Galal for the first three months after his arrival.

After Galal then came Greek coach Takis Gonias under whom Lakay played for nine months until January 2023 when Portuguese trainer Jaime Pacheco was brought in.

While there has been nothing to question Lakay's contribution which was at eight goals in the first season before improving to 12 in the 2022/23 campaign, which was his first full season at the club there is now talk of an exit.

This website has now been told that with the arrival of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, there are considerations for Lakay to leave even though he still has a running contract.

Lakay is set to make way for the new signings that the club is expected to make.

Pacheco is apparently keen on bringing in another signing of his choice who fits the billing of the kind of striker that he prefers.

Pyramids are known to be an unpredictable club who have a habit of making at least a dozen signings every season.

"Chances are now extremely high that Fagrie will not stay for the new season even though he was the top scorer for the club in the league.

"This is Pyramid, and this is how they operate," says a source based in Egypt.
