Ngezana ‘frozen out’

Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana found himself benched upon his return to club duties following the chaos that defined his most recent international assignment.

Ngezana reported for Bafana duty in high spirits after helping his Romanian club FCSB secure Europa League group stages qualification, which came with the ticket of playing Manchester United.

The former Kaizer Chiefs defender had also been on target for his first league goal in the days leading to the national team camp for games against Uganda and South Sudan respectively.

Hugo Broos took no hesitation in having him as the leader for his central defence partnership featuring Rushwin Dortley.

At the end of those two games, Bafana had conceded four goals and Ngezana will not be proud of how he dealt with certain situations leading to those goals.

After featuring at the back in the 2-2 draw at home against Uganda, he conceded the penalty that led to South Sudan's opener.

It was a case of being caught off-guard and then engaging in elements of clumsiness.

And then for the second goal conceded, his choices in defending could have been better than the fumbling pose that he put up, but luckily, Bafana ended up squeezing a winner.

Back at FCSB, Ngezana was kept on the bench for the entire match as the Romanian champions forced a 2-2 draw away at CFR Cluj.

Cameroon defender Joyskim Dawa partnered Mihai Popescu.

FCSB have had a slow start to the new season and have only gathered nine points from eight games, keeping them in the bottom half and nine points behind the log leaders.

They will play five games before the next FIFA break in October.
