PSL return an option for Serero?

Thulani Serero will be on the move again with his latest contract at UAE Pro League club Khorfakkan expiring.

Serero joined Khorfakkan Club in September in a deal that earned him less than he was getting at Al-Jazira, where he spent four years.

That deal was up to the end of the UAE League season, which came to an end earlier this month.

Indications from contacts in the Gulf country are that the 34-year-old's contract will not be renewed despite playing 21 games and scoring once.

Khorfakkan finished in the last place of safety and will tilt their interests towards having a younger squad.

Serero was the second-oldest player in the squad after veteran goalkeeper Ahmed Mahmoud.

This then paves way for his next move, which opens the options for a possible return to the PSL, though his package will be a subject of interest considering what he has been earning.

The other opportunities could be in the second-tier leagues in the Gulf Region, where he will earn a quarter of what he was getting at Khorfakkan last season.

'Cream' last played in the PSL back in the 2010/11 season, before moving to Holland, where he spent eight years playing for Ajax Amsterdam and Vitesse, before making the switch to the UAE.

In his four years at Al-Jazira, Serero has never started a match from the bench with all his 116 appearances coming as starts through winning the league and UAE Super Cup, while getting to play in the FIFA Club World Cup and Asian Champions League.

Serero last played for Bafana Bafana in November 2019 while Molefi Ntseki was still in charge just months after joining Al-Jazira.
