Unity in the Kaizer Chiefs squad has come under question after captain Yusuf Maart exercised his own authority over team spirit in a loss to Golden Arrows.
The blame for Chiefs' 10th loss in the league fell to Maart, after he missed a penalty before Arrows could take the lead at Moses Mabhida Stadium o Saturday, although he redeemed himself by equalizing.
Things may have turned out differently if the former Sekhukhune United man had scored his penalty or allowed Inacio Miguel, the side's designated penalty taker, take it.

Amakhosi eventually conceded late to lose 2-1.
What seemed to have infuriated the fanbase is that Maart appeared to have exercised the powers of the captain too much, not allowing the Angolan to continue as a designated penalty taker.
Shocking is that the 29-year-old had not taken a penalty in two years.
The last time he did so was in April 2023, scoring the winner in a 2-1 extra-time win over Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
However, it was the first time the former Orlando Pirates academy player missed a penalty in the PSL, after he also successfully converted in a 3-2 victory over Maritzburg United in March 2023.
The other time he took a penalty was in the colours of Sekhukhune, back in March 2021, firing home from 12 yards in a 1-1 draw against Arrows.

The biggest concern for Chiefs is why Miguel, who already has converted twice this season from the penalty spot - in a 3-1 win over Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup, and again in a 3-0 success against Chippa United in the same competition - was not allowed to go ahead and take the spot-kick.
After all, he already has four goals in all competitions this season.
Though Maart took responsibility as captain, his decision brings to the fore a seeming lack of unity and senior players who can question such a decision, amidst the troubles Amakhosi are facing.
