FIFA confirms latest PSL club ban

The PSL is now sitting with four clubs serving transfer bans after the confirmation of the latest by world governing body, FIFA.

FIFA states clubs serving such bans are temporarily prohibited from registering new players.

Top of the list has been crisis-laden Royal AM, who have unsettled cases with Samir Nurkovic and Ricardo Nascimento.

Nurkovic won his case, which went all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), and must now be paid approximately R11,2 million, while Nascimento's claim is under R1 million.

TS Galaxy have two three-window transfer bans, which came into effect in December, and have another case against them involving Liberian midfielder Jegbay Morris Konneh.

Konneh was signed at the beginning of the 2024/25 season but left without playing and has since taken legal proceedings against the club.

His claim is now with FIFA, with Galaxy having a 21-day notice to submit a response.

Pretoria Callies have been serving a three-window ban since November following a contractual dispute with a foreign player who took his case to FIFA and won.

Returning to FIFA's bad books is Richards Bay FC, who have been taken to task by Tanzanian defender Abdi Banda.

He spent a season with Richards Bay but left with unsettled financial issues, which led to him approaching FIFA again having done the same in another case against Chippa United.

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit has since chosen not to comply with FIFA's order, thus having a transfer ban imposed.

Kenyan winger Ovella Ochieng had Richards Bay in trouble with FIFA last year over a similar case.

This effectively means four PSL clubs will not be able to sign new players during the next window until they make all due payments.
