Bafana Bafana international Kamohelo Mokotjo makes sensational return to DStv Premiership

Bafana Bafana international Kamohelo Mokotjo looks set to return to domestic football with a blockbuster transfer to Sekhukhune United after a year on the sidelines.

Mokotjo's return to the DStv Premiership will come 14 years since making his only ever appearance in the colours of SuperSport United where he was an academy graduate prior to embarking for Europe.

The 32-year-old came through the ranks at SuperSport United before being promoted to the senior team in 2007 as a teenager along with Thato Mokeke and Andrew Golding as Gavin Hunt sought fresh midfield options after the departure of Teko Modise.

In his two years in the first team at SuperSport, Mokotjo made his debut as a 16-year-old before departing for Feyenoord Rotterdam alongside Philani Khwela, three months after his 18th birthday.

The Bafana midfielder's only appearance for SuperSport was an eight-minute cameo against Santos in December 2008.

During his time at SuperSport, Mokotjo played alongside Morgan Gould after the tough tackling defender arrived from Jomo Cosmos in 2008 through the time when Matsatsantsa wore Diadora kits and won the league three years in a row.

Gould has since retired and has recently been appointed as the second assistant coach at Sekhukhune United – the club that Mokotjo is joining.

Mokotjo turns 32 on March 11 and has signed with Sekhukhune on a short-term deal until the end of next season.

The former Brentford midfielder hasn't played competitive football for over a year having left his last club – MLS club FC Cincinnati – towards the end of 2021.

At Sekhukhune he will provide further central midfield options.

His career abroad has been spent in Holland, England, and USA.

Of those that were his teammates through his time in the first team at SuperSport, it is only the quartet of Mokeke, Denis Onyango, Elias Pelembe and George Maluleka still playing in the DStv Premiership.

Babina Noko have signed over 50 players in the 18 months that they have spent in the DStv Premiership with the other recent arrivals being Mzwanele Mahashe, Philani Zulu, and Given Mashikinya.

Up to 22 players were signed prior to the start of the new season.

They also signed over 20 players last season following their promotion from the first division.
