Struggling Sekhukhune drop points against Stellies

Sekhukhune United remain in the bottom-two spots in the DStv Premiership after playing to a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC on Saturday evening.

Debutant Tresor Tshibwabwa, Roderick Kabwe and Vusimuzi Mncube started for Sekhukhune, with Lasse Sobiech installed for Stellies ahead of captain Rafiq De Goede.

Sekhukhune made an extremely lively start and produced numerous flying shots around the area from notably Tshegofatso Mabasa that troubled goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

Not all the earlier forays belonged to Sekhukhune though, as Stellies nearly had the lead from a quick counter-attack between Antonio Van Wyk and Nhlanhla Mgaga but Badra Ali Sangare thwarted.

The Maroons enjoyed more openings late in the half and closed-in again when Sinethemba Mngomezulu headed a teasing cross from the right of the box wide of the top corner.

Babina Noko possessed a nerve of steel minutes to halftime and were ahead after a defensive lapse by Stellenbosch allowed Mabasa in to make the breakthrough with a smart finish.

Substitutions saw Edwin Gyimah on for Kabwe and Elias Mokwana in for Siyabulela Shai on the side of Sekhukhune before Stephens vacated for Lee Langeveldt following a knock to the head.

Steve Barker's men didn't lose focus after going behind and equalized seven minutes from the break as Mngomezulu finished off a delivery from Junior Mendieta for his second in a row.

Babina Noko searched thoroughly for their second at the midway stage of the second half, but Langeveldt was on hand and thwarted their quest.

The host were down to ten players following the final seven minutes with the new signing Tshibwabwa dismissed following a second bookable offence.

Sekhukhune though as well as their counterparts looked desperately for the winner with time running out, but in the end played to a stalemate and a point apiece.
