DONE DEAL: North African giants sign Chiefs-linked Bafana star

North African giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis have reached an agreement with Sekhukhune United for the signature of Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, KickOff can confirm.

The 24-year-old has been one of the most sought-after players in the DStv Premiership after having enjoyed a meteoric rise in the colours of Babina Noko over the past two seasons.

Mokwana scored five goals and had four assists in 35 matches across all competitions for Sekhukhune last season, including six appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Unsurprisingly, the winger's performances drew the attention of potential suitors both locally and abroad.

South African heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were both reported to be keeping a keen interest in Mokwana, with the latter said to be upping the ante for his services, as reported by this website on Tuesday.

However, according to impeccable sources, it is Tunisian champions Esperance who made an offer convincing enough for Sekhukhune to part ways with one of their most important players, with the club's hierarchy understood to have always preferred a move abroad for Mokwana over a local switch.

KickOff has gathered that Esperance's representatives landed in South Africa over the weekend and following days of negotiations with Sekhukhune's hierarchy and Mokwana's representatives, an agreement for the transfer of the winger was reached on Tuesday.
