The former Swallows mentor recently parted company with AmaZulu after 19 matches in charge and is now being earmarked to make a swift return to the dugout.
United are looking to move clear of the relegation zone as they currently sit 15th in the DStv Premiership standings.
Truter is reported to be leading a three-man race ahead of experienced campaigners Ernst Middendorp and John Maduka.
"I also hear the same thing [being a leading candidate]," Truter tells KickOff.
"But hey, I'm currently talking to a few clubs, so let's wait and see how it goes.
"Yes, Sekhukhune United are one of the clubs I'm talking to, but my agent is the one who knows better how the process is going."
